In theory gender discrimination is illegal, although practically discrimination exists everywhere you look. Equality in Britain has increased significantly since I was a child but many aspects of our culture are perpetuating discrimination against women. When we have widely accepted cultural practices that are in essence discriminatory towards women we need to acknowledge that we are unwittingly promoting and maintaining gender discrimination.
