The Forgotten, another unique show in the Brighton Festival

Designed to thrill, amaze, amuse and enchant!  What more could you wish for from a show?   This week theatre company Out Loud brought The Forgotten to the Brighton Dome Concert Hall, and for me I can honestly say it is not something that will easily be forgotten.  A blend of circus, dance and visual theatre, this show made me smile at its wry humour as much as I was amazed by the stunning performance and visual effects. Review of a lunchtime concert by the Cavaleri Quartet

My musical tastes can be enormously variable. I was brought up with classical music and learned the violin at school and these days my returns to classical music are few and far between.  Using the excuse that I wanted to give my Mum a trip out, this week I was delighted to see the Cavaleri Quartet play in Brighton. Review of Vincent Dance Theatre’s performance of Underworld

As part of the Brighton Festival, the Vincent Dance Theatre has performed two productions this week.  On a bright sunny afternoon in the vibrant city of Brighton I was paradoxically taken into the dark, cold and sinister land of the living dead, for their powerful production titled Underworld.  Based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, this production was 2 hrs and 15 minutes of multiple vignettes, telling an ever changing story. Review of Lucia’s Chapters of Coming Forth by Day

There is a fine line that separates genius and madness.  Many would describe James Joyce as a genius but not even know about the tragedy that surrounded his daughter Lucia.  Theatre company Mabou Mines produced the play Lucia’s Chapters of Coming  Forth by Day as an artistic interpretation of Lucia’s passage through life and death.  The beauty and tragedy  that results from the combination of genius and madness are presented in almost a philosophical study of the passage through life and death.  It was performed at the Theatre Royal as part of the Brighton Festival.
