Art meets political representation for Revolution 10 at the House of Commons

Image of Joseph YoungBy Eddie Saint-Jean

I was recently invited to the House of Commons to see an event called Revolution 10 ‘Let The People Decide’ which merged performance art with political representation. It was hosted by Green MP Caroline Lucas and performed by artist Joseph Young.  They  both bristled with easy authority as we were ushered into a rather grand looking committee room which refreshingly looked nothing like an art gallery. The artist briefly introduced himself as his politician alter-ego and then launched into his People’s Manifesto with all the sincerity and gusto of a real political candidate campaigning for the General Election. Laura Marling is one of the brightest young voices in today’s folk music scene. At the tender age of 25 she has already released four stunning albums with a fifth due for release in late March. One of her four UK 2015 dates took place in The Caves, an 18th century vaulted storage complex in Niddry Street South, Edinburgh, where she captivated the audience with her moving performances. The audience at Eastbourne College Theatre were taken into the world of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp by the Badac Theatre Company on Monday night.

Through a powerful and visceral performance the show, Ashes to Ashes, gave a glimpse into the harsh realities that prisoners would have faced at the camp.

Ska Toons, an energetic night to celebrate the start of the Eastbourne Festival

Ska toons performing at the Lamb InnBy Lucette Davies

First you start to tap your feet but it won’t be long before you are up and skanking along with everybody else to the bouncy off-beats of Ska Toons.

They claim that Ska is as infectious as the flu, but I would disagree with that!  Ska is totally addictive music and it would be hard to think of an illness that is as contagious.

A great night for the start of the Eastbourne Festival!
