Thai man who insults the monarchy is jailed for 30 years

A long way from the peaceful image of Thailand that is often promoted a recent prosecution  highlights the Junta’s heavy-handed  censorship and fierce protection of its current regime. A Thai man, Pongsak Sriboonpeng, 48, has received one of the toughest known sentences to date passed under the junta-ruled kingdom’s draconian royal defamation law.  Here in the UK it is a contentious issue for some that it is illegal to advocate the abolition of our monarchy, but the Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej is protected by laws that are  infinitely more fierce than ours.
