One of the statements used by the Conservatives to sell the Heath and Social Care Act back in the early days of the Coalition government was that it would increase patient choice.  But here in East Sussex, campaigners have been protesting and signing petitions for years to avoid losing consultant-led maternity services from one of the two main hospitals in the region.  The public was quite vociferous in their opposition to the proposed changes but they still happened and nobody has explained where that patient choice has gone? How has the NHS changed since 2010?

It would be hard to have missed seeing any of the news items that have featured the NHS over the last year.  Much of this news has been about poor patient care, poor management, NHS trusts in debt, hospital closures and public protests.  Our NHS service was a cherished public institution so what has changed and why?
