Democracy or no democracy and do we even care?

Voter turnout in the UK is particularly low, with just 35% voting in Thursday’s Euro elections.  Some people are proposing the introduction of compulsory voting in the UK although this idea is clearly unpopular with many.

Why are so few people now making the effort to vote and what could the consequences be of such apathy?

Would Britain be better off in or out of the EU?

There seems to be an endless stream of stories about UKIP candidates making racist tweets and statements in the media as the date for the European elections is approached.

Nigel Farage must be thrilled with the coverage he is getting on the TV and in newspapers but surely the whole discussion must be more than a debate on the nature of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP)?
